The original story of the little mermaid is that she must kill the prince in order to be human, and in the end, she loves him too much and kills herself instead.

Ok, ok - important expansion: she only has to kill the Prince because the deal was if he fell in love with her she could be human forever, and he didn’t. By which I mean, he was a good person and genuinely nice to her, but he didn’t fall in love. He fell in love with someone else, also perfectly nice - not the seawitch in disguise, fu Disney. The Mermaid is told she can only return to the sea now if she kills the Prince. She goes into the room where he and his lover lie sleeping and they look so beautiful and happy together that she can’t do it.

That’s why she kills herself. And because it was a noble act she returns to sea as foam.

One moral of the story was that women shouldn’t fundamentally change who they are for love of a man, and in theory Hans Christian Anderson wrote it for a ballerina with whom he fell in love. She was marrying someone else who wouldn’t let her dance.

Hello! Hi followers, friends, looks guys, my friend’s cat got injured, on his leg. They can’t afford the surgery so I suggested a fundraiser, to which they were really worried and sort of shy about but agreed after I offered to do it for them without using their names. I swear on my tumblr and kpop and on my love of cats and coffee that this is not a hoax. The cat’s name is Ki and he’s in a lot of pain. They noticed he was favoring his leg a little and then one night he missed a jump or something and came to them dragging his leg. They took him to the vet and were informed that instead of having to put him down, there’s a surgery available and they have the consult on monday (I’ll post a follow-up with the information they get then). All they know is it’s an expensive surgery and there’s no way they can afford it. We’re not asking for a bunch of huge donations, maybe a dollar? If enough people donate just a dollar we could do it, and help Ki. I promise, absolutely promise this is legit and it’s all I can do to help my friends and their cat… you guys know how much I love cats right? Even if you can’t do a dollar anything at all is appreciated and needed. Thank you for even taking the time to read this. Please help us spread it around? And please don’t add anyone that doesn’t reblog or donate is heartless… that’s not what this is about, we just need as much little help as we can wherever we can get it from to raise enough money to get Ki’s leg fixed. “A young woman was restrained, force-fed and injected with cosmetics in a high street shop window as part of a hard-hitting protest against animal testing.

Jacqueline Traide was tortured in front of hundreds of horrified shoppers in a bid to raise awareness and end the practise.

The 24-year-old endured 10 hours of experiments, which included having her hair shaved and irritants squirted in her eyes, as part of a worldwide campaign by Lush Cosmetics and The Humane Society.

The disturbing stunt took place in Lush’s Regent Street store, one of the UK’s busiest shopping streets.

Jacqueline appeared genuinely terrified as she was pinned down on a bench and had her mouth stretched open with two metal hooks while a man in a white coat force-fed her until she choked and gagged.

The artist was also injected with numerous needles, had her skin braised and lotions and creams smeared across her face.

Passers-by were gobsmacked to see Jacqueline, a social sculpture student at Oxford Brookes University, forced to have a section of her head shaved.

The gruesome spectacle aimed to highlight the cruelty inflicted on animals during cosmetic laboratory tests and raise awareness that animal testing is still a common practise.

The Humane Society International and Lush Cosmetics have joined forces to launch the largest-ever global campaign to end animal testing for cosmetics.

The campaign, launched to coincide with World Week for Animals in Laboratories, is being rolled out simultaneously in over 700 Lush Ltd shops across forty-seven countries including the United States, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Russia.

Lush campaign manager Tamsin Omond said: “The ironic thing is that if it was a beagle in the window and we were doing all these things to it, we’d have the police and RSPCA here in minutes.

“But somewhere in the world, this kind of thing is happening to an animal every few seconds on average.

“The difference is, it’s normally hidden. We need to remind people it is still going on.”
